Verizon broadband customers total 9.1 million, with more than 6 million of them enjoying HSI reliability, plan variety, special-feature services and 24 x 7 live tech support. Verizon's up-to-7.1 Mbps (megabits per second) High Speed Internet service is now available to more than 10 million homes and small businesses in 24 states and the District of Columbia.

Enabled by digital subscriber line (DSL) technology and first offered in 1998, Verizon High Speed Internet (HSI) service is the company's most widely available form of broadband offered to residential customers and small businesses.
Verizon HSI service is offered in the following downstream and upstream connection speed configurations:
Up to 1 Mbps* x 384 Kbps* Downloads data and photo files up to 12 times faster than a dial-up Internet connection.
Up to 3 Mbps x 768 Kbps Downloads data and photos up to three times faster than 1 Mbps HSI, and up to 50 times faster than a dial-up Internet connection.
Up to 7.1 Mbps x 768 Kbps Downloads data and photos up to 125 times faster than a dial-up Internet connection; good for watching movies and streaming video files.

According to PC Magazine's 2008 Readers' Survey, Verizon High Speed Internet service beats the average cable provider in reliability, costs and fees, and scores better overall than most Internet service providers. Connection speeds are between a customer's location and the Verizon central office serving that home or small-business location.
Actual download and upload speeds will vary based on numerous factors, such as the condition of wiring at one's location, computer configuration, Internet and network congestion and the speed of Website servers one accesses, among other factors.
Verizon HSI is a dedicated data service. This means consumers get a dedicated connection to the Verizon central office and don't share their data connection with anyone else - unlike cable modems and Wi-Fi, which are shared connections.
Pricing
Annual contract pricing for Verizon HSI is $19.99 per month for up to 1 Mbps; $29.99 per month for up to 3 Mbps; and $39.99 per month for up to 7.1 Mbps. When customers sign up for an annual commitment, as opposed to a month-to-month plan, they can save as much as $150 per year.
When signing up for a two-year commitment, Verizon customers can obtain a price guarantee of $17.99 per month for the up to 1 Mbps service, $29.99 per month for up to 3 Mbps, and $39.99 per month for up to 7.1 Mbps.
