Working Mother has named Verizon to the publication’s list of 100 Best companies, for the ninth consecutive year. The annual list recognizes companies that have family-friendly benefits and policies that help working mothers strike a balance between their work and personal lives. According to the publication, the 100 best companies have shown an unwavering dedication to family-friendly benefits programs.
Hispanic Business magazine has named Verizon to the publication's 2009 DIVERSITY ELITE 60 list. It is the fifth consecutive year that Verizon has been named to the annual list.
Ponemon Institute, an information security research company, and TRUSTe, a leading Internet privacy services and privacy seal provider, have ranked Verizon as the most trusted communications company for privacy.
DJSI -- Verizon has been added to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI) — one of the family of Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes that identifies top companies based on their environmental, social and governance activities. Verizon is the only U.S.-based telecommunications firm on the North America Index.
BusinessWeek magazine has ranked Verizon among the Best Places to Launch a Career, for the fourth consecutive year. Verizon is again ranked 22nd and is the highest-ranked telecommunications company on the list.
Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption has honored Verizon as one of 2009's best adoption-friendly workplaces. Rankings are based on the financial assistance and paid leave provided by the employer's adoption benefits policy.
Energy Star -- Verizon has received the Energy Star award from the U.S. Dept. of Energy, recognizing the efficiency of the company’s lighting, cooling, heating and overall energy-management procedures at the Verizon Center in Basking Ridge, N.J. The award puts the center in the top tier of energy-efficient buildings.
New Jersey Monthly has named Verizon as one of the 12 Great Places to Work in New Jersey. The selections were made based on nominations submitted by a panel of recruitment professionals, academics and consultants.
LatinaStyle -- For the seventh consecutive year, Verizon has earned a top ranking in the Latina Style 50, LATINA Style magazine's annual list of the best companies for Latinas to work for in the U.S. Verizon ranked among the Top 12 companies in the 2009 survey, which evaluated 800 corporations.
Workforce Diversity for Engineering & IT Professionals, a recruitment magazine for experienced engineers who are members of minority groups, has named Verizon to the publication's list of Top 50 Employers. To compile the list, the publication asked its readers to identify the top U.S. companies where the readers would most like to work or that readers believe would provide a positive working environment for members of minority groups.
Covalence, a research firm in Geneva, Switzerland, that annually tracks the ethical reputations of multinational corporations, has ranked Verizon No. 2 for ethics in the telecommunications industry.

Natural Health magazine has awarded Verizon a 2009 Green Choice Award for the company's recycling and conservation initiatives, including efforts to encourage customers and shareholders to choose paperless options.
Women's Business Enterprise National Council Again Names Verizon a Top American Corporation. For the fourth consecutive year, Verizon has been named to the Women's Business Enterprise National Council annual list of America's Top Corporations for Women's Business Enterprise. The WBENC's list recognizes corporations for world-class programs that create level playing fields for women's business enterprises to compete for corporate contracts. In 2008 alone, Verizon conducted $3.5 billion worth of business with diverse suppliers including women-owned businesses.
DiversityBusiness.com's eighth annual online survey named Verizon as one of the Top 50 Companies for Multicultural Business Opportunities. Verizon was selected by the minority and women-owned suppliers themselves in an annual online poll that is available to more than 500,000 voters.
DiversityInc ranked Verizon No.12 on the publication's 2009 Top 50 Companies for Diversity. Top 50 companies demonstrate consistent strength in four areas: CEO commitment, human capital, corporate and organizational communications, and supplier diversity. The publication also ranked Verizon No.6 on its list of 2009 Top 10 Companies for African-Americans.
The National Association for Female Executives has named Verizon to its list of 2009 NAFE Top 50 Companies for Executive Women, which spotlights corporations with practices and employment records that benefit women and encourage their advancement to top management positions. NAFE examined corporate programs and policies dedicated to advancing women as well as the number of women in each company overall, in senior management and on the company's board of directors. NAFE drew particular attention to the number of women with profit-and-loss responsibility.
Diversity MBA Magazine has ranked Verizon No. 7 on the publication's 2009 list of Top Companies for Diverse Managers to Work. This is the fourth consecutive year that Verizon's continued commitment to global diversity has earned the company a Top 10 ranking on the list.
Equal Opportunity magazine ranked Verizon No. 10 in the publication's 16h annual Top 50 Employers list. The readers of Equal Opportunity selected the top companies in the country for which they would most prefer to work or believe are progressive in hiring members of minority groups
Corporate Responsibility Officer Magazine has ranked Verizon No. 32 on the publication's 100 Best Corporate Citizens List for 2009. Verizon, the only telecommunications company on the list, was ranked 81st in 2008.

The award is based on such factors as the volume, consistency and quality of business opportunities a company grants to women- and minority-owned suppliers. Frost & Sullivan Recognizes Verizon for Its Environmental Initiatives -- Verizon's environmental policies and customer-facing initiatives have earned the company Frost & Sullivan's 2008 Green Excellence of the Year Award in the Corporate Leadership category for the telecom services industry.
Conceive magazine named Verizon for the second time as one of the Top 50Companies that offer the most generous fertility or adoption benefits, or both.
Verizon Tops Industry in Survey of Companies Most Trusted to Protect Customer Privacy – Verizon is among the top U.S. companies most trusted to protect customer privacy, according to a survey by research firm Ponemon Institute and TRUSTe, the online privacy evaluator. Verizon is the highest-ranked communications company for being the most trustworthy and for doing the best job safeguarding personal information.
National Eagle Leadership Institute Honors Verizon for Corporate Responsibility Efforts - Verizon's Thinkfinity.org has earned the company the National Eagle Leadership Institute (NELI) Award for Stellar Leadership in Corporate Responsibility. Verizon was one of four companies to receive the award.
Working Mother magazine has named Verizon to the publication's list of 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers, for the eighth consecutive year. Verizon is once again the only telecommunications or cable company on the list. For this year's list, the publication gave particular weight to family-friendly policies, flexibility, leave policies and benefits for part-timers. Verizon received its highest ranking in the areas of compensation, benefits, job-guaranteed time off for childbirth or adoption, and the company's health and wellness programs.

Hispanic Business magazine, for the fourth consecutive year, has named Verizon to the Top 15 of the publication's Diversity Elite 60, an annual list determined by more than 30 variables that measure companies' commitments to Hispanic hiring, promotion, marketing, philanthropy and supplier diversity.
Latin Business magazine named Verizon to the publication's Corporate Diversity Honor Roll 2008 for U.S. companies doing the most on behalf of the nation's minority communities, particularly Hispanics. Verizon has been on the honor roll since 2004.

Verizon Wins N.J. Environmental Excellence Award -- Verizon Communications has received the Governor's Environmental Excellence Award for a project that is improving about 25 acres of grass and wetland habitats at the company's corporate campus, Verizon Center, in Basking Ridge, N.J.
Working Mother Magazine names Verizon to its List of 100 Best Companies. The company was selected for the 2007 Working Mother 100 Best Companies based on an extensive application of 575 questions. Seven areas were measured and scored: workforce profile, compensation, child care, flexibility, time off and leaves, family-friendly programs, and company culture.
Hispanic Business magazine ranked Verizon ninth in its Top 60 Business Elite list for 2007. The magazine ranks companies using data points from 30 variables including hiring, promotion, marketing and diversity goals. Verizon has made the magazine's top list every year since 2004.
Latin Business magazine named Verizon to its Honor Roll winners for 2007 for U.S. companies doing the most on behalf of the nation's minority communities, particularly Hispanics. Verizon has been on the honor roll since 2004.
Verizon Selected for EPA's WasteWise Hall of Fame. Verizon will be inducted into the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency's WasteWise Hall of Fame on Nov. 14 in Washington, D.C. Over the years, Verizon has earned nine WasteWise Awards from the EPA for the company's successful waste-prevention and recycling programs. WasteWise is a free, voluntary EPA program through which organizations eliminate costly municipal solid waste and select industrial wastes, benefiting their bottom line and the environment. Verizon has been a charter partner since 1994.
BusinessWeek magazine named Verizon one of the "Best Places to Launch a Career." In the magazine's second annual survey, Verizon is listed at No. 38 among the 95 top companies cited by the magazine. BusinessWeek based its rankings on extensive surveys of three groups: directors of career services departments at U.S. Colleges, data from the employers they identify as the best for new graduates, and college students themselves.
Latina Style Names Verizon One of the Top Companies for Latinas - Latina Style magazine has named Verizon Communications for the fifth consecutive year as one of the publication's 'Top 13 Companies. The LATINA Style survey, now in its 10th year, is an annual evaluation of corporate America's sensitivity to Latinas' needs and goals in the workplace and identifies the corporations that are providing the best career opportunities for Latinas in the United States. Verizon was among 1,000 corporations included in the extensive research.
Verizon Named Top Supporter of Historically Black Universities and Colleges (HBCUs). Verizon was recognized by the Historically Black Universities and Colleges for its long-standing and significant support of the universities' mission to educate minority students. In particular, Verizon was recognized by the Engineering Deans of the ABET-accredited HBCUs for its continued support of their programs.

Verizon Communications, for the second year in a row, has been named to Working Mother Magazine's Best Companies for Multicultural Women, a list of 20 companies with cutting-edge policies and practices that support African-American, Asian-American, Latina and Native-American Women in the workplace. This year, Working Mother gave the most weight to the representation, recruitment and retention of women of color. The magazine analyzed the workforce profiles of companies, including the number of women of color, women in top positions and top earners; programs for women of color; and work/life programs such as childcare, elder care and time off following childbirth.

Now in its seventh year, The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list is the largest competition of its kind. The list is determined solely from a comprehensive survey of diversity management that measures CEO commitment, human capital, corporate communications and supplier diversity. (2007)
BusinessWeek ranks Verizon NO. 7 in the overall rankings. The only telecommunications company in the top 25. Criteria for the grading comprised a company's profitability, its sales-growth rate, its market value, its 1-year total return, its 3-year total return, its sales and its profits. According to BusinessWeek, "Companies in the BusinessWeek 50 represent our choices as the 'best in class' from each of the 10 sectors that make up the S&P 500." (2007)
Conceive's top 50 companies for fertility and adoption benefits. Conceive said: "To find the top 50 U.S.-based companies for fertility and adoption benefits, we sent out questionnaires to the top 100 of the Fortune 500 companies. Additionally, we cast our net even wider by scouring previously published lists and individuals' Web postings, and collecting data and suggestions from industry leaders and not-for-profit organizations. We then followed up on all these suggestions, doing independent research and speaking with company representatives to confirm the benefits information. We're confident that the companies we've highlighted deserve to be recognized for their generous family-building benefits."

Verizon Communications/Verizon Wireless Rated No. 1 for Diversity - Diversity Inc named Verizon to the top spot on the magazine's 2006 list of Top 50 Companies for Diversity. Verizon Communications and Verizon Wireless share the No. 1 ranking. Some 256 companies participated in the survey. They were evaluated in four categories: CEO commitment to diversity, which was given the most weight; human capital (employee retention by race/ethnicity/gender); corporate communications (including diversity training, mentoring and multicultural marketing); and supplier diversity. In addition to the list of top 50 companies, DiversityInc also selected the top companies in several categories. On those lists, Verizon and its business units, including Verizon Wireless, ranked No. 1 for recruitment and retention, No. 8 for African-Americans and No. 9 for Latinos.

Business Week Names Verizon 'One of Best Places to Launch a Career' - Verizon is one of the top employers for new college graduates, according to Business Week magazine. The company is No. 11 on the magazine's list of "Best Places to Launch a Career." Business Week reviewed feedback from students, college career counselors and employers to determine which companies offer the biggest advantages for entry-level employees, such as the highest pay, the most rapid advancement and the best training programs.
Latina Style Names Verizon One of the Top Companies for Latinas - Latina Style Magazine has named Verizon Communications as one of its 'Top 13 Companies' for Verizon's "dedication and extraordinary efforts in providing career advancement opportunities and diversity policies for all employees." Each year, the magazine selects the top 50 companies for Latinas to work for in the U.S. This year, the criteria also included the relationship that companies have with Latina business owners. After selecting the Latina Style Top 50, the magazine highlighted 13 of those companies, including Verizon, as the very best.
Verizon was listed among the 'Top 20 Companies for Leaders' in a 2006 study conducted by the Hay Group in partnership with CEO Magazine.
Verizon Named Among Top Companies for Hispanics - Verizon ranked No. 7 on Hispanic Business' list of Top 50 Companies for Hispanics. The magazine's second annual Top 50 Companies survey reveals the growing strength of Hispanics in influencing American corporate culture. Noting that diversity is smart for business, the magazine reports, "Like the early adopters of Web marketing and outreach in the late '90s, these companies are investing in new avenues to attract consumers."

Verizon Wireless Recognized for Workplace Excellence - Verizon Wireless received double honors from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence, a national non-profit organization that promotes outstanding workplaces. For the fourth consecutive year, the Alliance presented Verizon Wireless with its Workplace Excellence Seal. The company also was named a "Health & Wellness Trailblazer," a new national award honoring employers committed to employee health and fitness.
Verizon Named to Working Mother's 'Best Companies for Women of Color' - Verizon Communications and Verizon Wireless were named to Working Mother magazine's 2006 Best Companies for Women of Color, a list of 12 trailblazing companies with cutting-edge policies and practices that support African-American, Asian-American, Latina and Native-American women in the workplace. Among the criteria, Working Mother looked for companies with mentoring opportunities; management and leadership training; support and networking groups; an annual conference to encourage the advancement of women of color; and executive succession planning.
Moms In Business Network Names Verizon Company Of The Year - The Moms In Business Network has named Verizon national 'Company of the Year,' citing Verizon's first-rate service and understanding of the needs of working mothers by providing products and services tailored to assist women entrepreneurs. The annual award also recognized Verizon for its commitment to working mothers and making them feel respected as professionals in the workplace. A committee of business professionals reviewed more than 100 nominees, noting that Verizon was one of the rare nominations submitted by a customer.
Black MBA Magazine Rates Verizon No. 1 For Commitment to Diversity - Verizon heads the 2006 list of the 'Top 50 Companies for Black MBAs,' according to a survey by Black MBA Magazine. The survey examined whether companies' recruitment and staffing reflects the growing diversity of MBAs in the work force. Verizon was cited for its strong commitment to diversity programs and recruitment and for developing an inclusive work force that includes the company's senior leadership. Verizon Recognized as a Leader in Employee Training - Verizon Wireless and Verizon Communications are among the best companies in providing training for employees, according to Training magazine. Both made the publication's annual "Training Top 100" list of organizations that excel at employee development. Along with Alltel, they were the only major telecom companies selected. Cox Communications was the only cable TV company to make the list. In selecting the top 100, the magazine considered many factors, including a company's financial commitment to training, programs offered and business metrics tracked and tied to training, such as employee retention and customer service.
Newsletter for Customers with Disabilities Wins National Award - Verizon Telecom's online newsletter for people with disabilities has been honored by the Association for Women in Communications. Forward Access, the quarterly newsletter produced by the Verizon Center for Customers with Disabilities, won the 2006 Clarion Award for the best external corporate newsletter. The Clarion awards symbolize excellence in clear, concise communications. The newsletter provides information about people, communications products and events of interest to customers with disabilities.
Women and Minority Business Owners Rate Verizon High in Supplier Diversity- Verizon and Verizon Wireless are among the top 50 corporate buyers of products and services from women- and minority-owned businesses, according to DiversityBusiness.com, the nation's leading multicultural business-to-business portal. The list, known as the Div50, is based on votes from women and minorities who own businesses in sectors such as technology, manufacturing, food service and professional services. The business owners based their selections on the volume, consistency and quality of business opportunities granted to women- and minority-owned companies.
Three Verizon Executives Make List of 'Women Worth Watching' - Three Verizon senior leaders have been recognized by Profiles in Diversity Journal as 'Women Worth Watching' in 2006, along with seventy-four other top women executives. Verizon Information Services President Kathy Harless, Southwest Region President Sheila Lau, and Verizon LiveSource President Kitty Linder reveal in their own words how key mentoring relationships have influenced their career development and share their own mentoring advice with readers. The fourth annual Women Worth Watching issue recognizes these executives for initiatives and achievements in leading their organizations and their communities.
