- Verizon's recycling program is in effect in more than 400 facilities (administration, material recovery centers, warehouses, printing, garages) and includes the recycling of office paper and cardboard, pallets, electronic and other scrap, laser printer cartridges and beverage containers. Over 35,000 tons of office paper and cardboard were recycled in 2005.
- Verizon redeployed approximately 12,000 desktop and laptop computers, printers, monitors and related parts.
- Verizon reduced its energy consumption through its energy conservation efforts in 2005, thus saving $15 million and eliminating almost 115,000 tons of CO2 emissions, one of the major greenhouse gases.
- Verizon's 2005 Annual Report and 2006 Corporate Responsibility Report are printed on recycled paper.
- Verizon leads the telecommunication's industry with a total of eight Energy Star certified buildings across the United States.
- Verizon supplies a variety of services (teleconferencing, video conferencing, Internet access, etc.) to facilitate communications without the need to travel and produce greenhouse gas emissions.
- The Verizon Foundation invested $72 million in communities nationwide in 2005, which includes providing financial support to employee-supported environmental efforts and groups.
- Verizon has implemented a Commuter Reimbursement Program that encourages employees to use mass transit or van pools that assist communities in improving air quality.
- Verizon processed 65,000 tons of telecommunications equipment through the maintenance or upgrading of our network. Equipment was repaired and reused or passed on to processors and converted to raw materials for use in manufacturing new products.
- Verizon offers paper-free billing services.
- Verizon also reuses, refurbishes, resells or recycles surplus office furniture.
- Verizon's document storage and destruction procedures include paper recycling.
- Verizon Information Services contributed to recycling education in selected Verizon territories by producing local recycling information in telephone directories.
