Judy Spitz is senior vice president and chief information officer for Verizon's new business unit. Prior to this, Spitz has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility at Verizon and its predecessor companies.

Immediately before her current assignment, Spitz was senior vice president, network and national operations systems, responsible for the design, deployment and maintenance engineering, service provisioning, service assurance, workforce management, dispatch, testing, surveillance, and supply chain systems. Most recently in this position, she was responsible for the delivery of the systems to support Verizon's FTTP/FiOS launch. Prior to this position, Spitz was senior vice president, wholesale, network and corporate eChannel for Verizon's eBusiness group.

From 1998 thru 2000, Spitz was vice president of network systems advanced technology at Bell Atlantic. Between 1994 and 1998, Spitz served as executive director of the Network Operations Technologies Laboratory. Spitz began her career at NYNEX Science & Technology in 1986 as a member of technical staff in the Speech Technology Group. In 1988 she was named technical director of the group. Before joining Bell Atlantic, Spitz was a research associate at the City University of New York's Center for Research in Speech and Hearing Sciences. She served as an adjunct professor at Hunter College for 6 years.

Spitz was named to CIO Magazine’s 2005 "One's to Watch" list. She is a three-time recipient of Verizon's Quality/Excellence Awards.

Spitz holds a bachelor's degree from Boston University, a master's degree from Washington University, and a Ph.D. from the City University of New York's Graduate Center, all in speech and hearing sciences.

Spitz is a member of the Pace University's Department of Computer Science and Information Systems Advisory Board, a member of Leadership America, and she has recently been named to the Board of the American Red Cross in Greater New York.
