Robert (Bob) Mudge is executive vice president & chief operating officer for Verizon Telecom.  He leads an organization of more than 80 thousand employees in 27 states and the District of Columbia, responsible for sales, marketing and local network operations for Verizon's wireline consumer and small business customers.  This unit is breaking new ground in the industry by deploying FiOS, Verizon's fiber-based voice, video and high-speed data service.  Mudge also directs organizations that assure service delivery for large business and wholesale customers, network surveillance, and centralized network operations.

Prior to his current assignment, Mudge was senior vice president – Northeast Region for Verizon's Network Service Group.  In that position, he was responsible for service delivery to consumer and business customers in six Northeastern states and for the operation of the local, long-distance and advanced networks in those areas.

Mudge has over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry and has held a variety of leadership positions including president – Massachusetts, where he was responsible for the company's regulatory, legislative and government affairs, and community relations.  Since joining New England Telephone in 1983, he has also held positions in Operations, Construction & Engineering and Public Affairs. 

Mudge is a past board member of The Wang Center for Performing Arts, Boston, and past chairman of the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation.

He is a graduate of North Adams State College, and received an MBA from Suffolk University.
